Sapindus trifoliatus (இலுப்பை) – Soapnut Tree or Reetha – Plant - 16 x 30 inch
Commonly known as the Soapnut Tree or Reetha, Sapindus trifoliatus is a medium-sized, deciduous tree that produces fruits rich in saponin, a natural soap. It grows up to 15 meters tall and has compound leaves with oval leaflets. This tree is highly valued for its eco-friendly cleaning properties and is also used in traditional medicine. Its natural soap-producing quality makes it popular for sustainable farming and forest projects.
Plant in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Water regularly during the first two years, then reduce frequency as the tree matures and becomes drought-tolerant. Minimal fertilization is needed; an annual application of organic compost is sufficient. Prune lightly to maintain shape and remove dead branches. Sapindus thrives in warm climates and requires little maintenance once established.
